.~Glacier Peak Holistics To The Rescue.~

This past summer was a bit "ruff" for Cowboy.
Day after day I noticed new symptom's manifesting:
Scratching
Licking
Weepy left eye
Rash under his back legs
Dry nose
Back leg tremors
Swollen knee joints
Limping
He looked miserable and I could tell he was in great discomfort.

Next step?
A trip to the vet's office.

My vet - who I value and highly respect - wanted to address his back leg tremors and swelling first.
Cowboy's sister, Cowgirl, passed away two years ago from bone cancer and the vet wanted to get that ruled out. To my relief the X-Ray showed no signs of bone cancer.
But what it did show was severe arthritis.
(Cowgirl is the beautiful dog in the upper left hand corner.
I miss her so ~)
So what to do now?
My vet said that there was three things that she could suggest to help Cowboy:
Operation
Glucosimine
Rimadyl
An operation was out of the question.  He was far to old to put him through that.
I did purchase the Glucosamine she recommended.
Reluctantly, I also purchased the Rimadyl.

Why reluctantly?
Have you ever read the possible side effects of Rimadyl?
This is straight from the Rimadyl Side Effects Website
Potential Side Effects Of Rimadyl Include:
  • A loss of appetite and unwillingness to drink
  • Changes in urination patterns: sweet smelling urine,
  •  blood in the urine, and/or urinating far more than usual
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Vomit or stools containing blood
  • Changes in skin, including scabs, redness, itching
  • Change in normal temperament: lethargy, drowsiness, restlessness, aggressiveness, hyperactivity
  • Stumbling, staggering, partial or full paralysis
  • Seizures
  • Dizziness
  • Jaundice: yellow whites of the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes
  • Death
Fortunately for me, on the very same day,  I went to Heaven's Peak Organics,
my local health food store, and asked about any known herbal remedies for dogs and arthritis.

Heather, the owner of the store got a BIG SMILE on her face and said," YES! Inflapotion!
 Inflapotion is the answer!"

I thought to myself, "what do I have to lose?"
I purchased it and began mixing it in Cowboy's food right away.
I saw a difference in just 24 hours.
Within 48 hours, Cowboy was acting like a puppy again.
He loves the taste of the Inflapotion.
So much so, he dances around his food bowl when I give it to him.

The story gets better... .

So now that I had Cowboy's arthritis in check, I needed to get to the bottom of his
scratching, licking, weepy eyes and rash.

My next purchase from GPH was the
Pet Wellness Life Stress Scan

The Pet Wellness Life Stress Scan results showed that Cowboy
 has stressors to the  following:
  Beef and Salmon.
Also to all grains.
Yams
Sweet Potato's
Gluten
Canola oil
Wood Smoke
Fescue
Pesticides
Herbicides'
Spiders

The energetic imbalance panel showed his immune system was compromised.

Interestingly, I was feeding him a diet that had those exact food ingredients.
We do heat our house with wood.
We did recently have a spider outbreak in our house.
My husband had just sprayed for weeds around our property
which has fescue all around which Cowboy eats often.

I immediately switched his food and eliminated the foods highlighted as stressors.
Cowboy's itching and scratching decreased right away and within 3 weeks time stopped all together.

The rash?  That went away almost immediately.

As for addressing the environmental issues, some of them were out of my control like the grasses, pollens, trees... .  But I learned by boosting his immune system he would be able tolerate those things better.  As for the things I could control like cleaning products and laundry detergent, I simply chose more environmentally friendly products.

I started giving him Peak Immune which
is designed  to "Super Charge" the performance of the immune system.

After three cycles of the Peak Immune, I will give him Daily Defense
which is a daily nutritional supplement that once he gets healthy will keep him healthy!

GPH also suggested I give Cowboy an enzyme and a pro-biotic because I feed him kibble.
Cowboy now gets  Enzymedica Digest Basics and Pro-Bio mixed in his food too.

I bet you think I am making this all up.
I'm not.
This is a true story.

Cowboy is not scratching and not itching.
He does not have a rash any longer.
What he does have is energy and he can go on walks again!

Want to know the happiest ending of all?
Not only is my best friend Cowboy feeling 100% better,
but Glacier Peak Holistics was looking for a Sales Representative.
I applied for the job and got it!

.~Closer To Heaven.~

Cowboy Cooper Marvel
(January 31st, 2000 - Present)

It was at the end of February 2000 that Cowboy came into my life.
I'd been away on a business trip.
The hours were long and arduous.
To add insult to injury,
I got stuck in a snow storm
which delayed me from coming straight home.
The roads were completely shut down.
When the weather finally cleared up,
the roads were still snow packed and icy.
I was driving 25 miles an hour.
The only highlight of the drive was hearing
 the Dixie Chick's song
Cowboy Take Me Away
for the first time.
I remember crying through the entire song
as it so represented the core of who I am and how I want to live my life.

"I said I wanna touch the earth I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly
I wanna sleep on the hard ground in the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of blue bonnets in a blanket made of stars

Oh it sounds good to me
I said

Cowboy take me away fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue
Set me free oh I pray closer to heaven above and closer to you
Closer to you

I wanna walk and not run, I wanna skip and not fall
I wanna look at the horizon, and not see a building standing tall
I wanna be the only one, for miles and miles
Except for maybe you, and your simple smile

Oh it sounds good to me, yes it sounds so good to me,

Cowboy take me away, fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue
Set me free, oh, I pray, closer to heaven above, and closer to you
Closer to you  ... .

I finally got home safe but utterly exhausted.
Little did I know that my life was about to change forever.

I opened the door and to my surprise there was
a little bitty puppy
with a red bandana wrapped around his neck
waiting for me.

My husband informed me that he named him Cowboy.
Serendipity?
Why yes, I think so.

It was at that moment that Cowboy stole my heart.
I cannot imagine my life with out him.
His unconditional love fills my soul
and just like the song says
he has a way of flying my spirit as high as it can
into the wild blue.

Oh and that" simple smile" of his does indeed take me away.

.~Fish Parade.~

Original Watercolor
Fish P15" X 18"
Original Watercolor

Story Behind The Art:

One day many, many, many summers ago, I set up a little table underneath the shade of an Aspen tree. On the table I had watercolor paper, watercolors, brushes, in pens, pitcher of water and some paper towels. Oh and yes, I do think there was a bottle of Duck Pond Pinot Gris involved.

My goal was to unleash my creative spirit by painting whatever was in my head at the moment.
Fish Parade was one of the 5 paintings that occurred serendipitously that afternoon.

I just came across the portfolio that the five paintings were tucked away in and I thought I would bring them out into the light and put them up for sale.

If it were me, I would find a fun funky old frame, paint it a wild crazy color and put this painting in it.

Perfect.

Please let me know if you have any questions and make sure to check out the other 4 paintings in the series:  Traci Suzanne Marvel's Original Paintings

.~Montana Skies.~

The cowboys had lived for months under the great bowl of the sky, and yet the Montana skies seemed deeper than the skies of Texas or Nebraska. Their depth and blueness robbed even the sun of its harsh forceit seemed smaller, in the vastness, and the whole sky no longer turned white at noon as it had in the lower plains. Always, somewhere to the north, there was a swath of blueness, with white cloads floating in it like petals in a pond.

Only 1 Available
It measures 10 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide.

Christie has this beautiful item for sale in her Etsy store.
It is so gorgeous!

Here is what Christie says about it:

This is a very unusual California potter pinkish peach water or tea cooler. This is a beautiful piece that is in great condition without chips or cracks. The color a gorgeous creamy color. The spout works but the gasket is a little dried and cracking. I filled it with water and the spout works and there is no leaking around the gasket . I believe it can be easily replaced if it does start to leak. The lid is also in great condition without chips or cracks.
It is marked "Calif Pottery" on the bottom.
